Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Hoyts Regent Theatre ca1955.jpg |
English: The Hoyts Regent Theatre was built in 1929 and was designed by Charles Hollinshed. The style was both Spanish Gothic and Empire period. Seating at that time was 2,583 patrons and the auditorium was cooled by the first air conditioning in Queensland. Four crystal chandeliers hung from the dress circle ceiling. A WurliTzer Opus no. 2040 theatre organ was installed to entertain the patrons during interval. in the 1950s the organ was dismantled and sold to a private person in New South Wales, but it is now reinstalled in the Queensland Art Gallery's Cinematheque.
The Regent is located in Queen Street Mall, between Albert and Edward Streets and today operates as a cinema complex. The downstairs Cinema One is a likeness to the original theatre. |
