Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Alnitak Region of Orion hosts a spectacle of emission, absorption and reflection nebulae. In this image, the Flame and Horsehead nebulae surround the bright star Alnitak, which is one of the three bright stars comprising Orion's famous belt. The Flame and Horsehead nebulae form part of the much larger Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, an enormous star-forming region that extends across the entire constellation. The Horsehead Nebula is one of the most well-known deep sky object due to its peculiar shape resembling the head of a stallion. Although it is itself a dark nebula, it is visible as a silhouette against the red backdrop of the emission nebula IC 434. Photographed with personal equipment
