Orcutt was married to Olive Lucy Eddy, the first woman to earn a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Michigan's Homœopathic Medical College at Ann Arbor (June 30, 1882). Orcutt traveled extensively on natural science expeditions in the southwestern United States, the Baja Peninsula, and Central America. He was on an expedition to Haiti when he passed away.
