Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Hill 60 Trwnc Incline A "trwnc incline" is one where the wagons did not themselves run up or down the incline rails but rather were conveyed on platforms known as "tancs". The Hill 60 incline brought quarried slate down from the top workings (as well as upwards from the Deep Pit) to the mills in the lower part of the quarry and also carried waste rock upwards to various levels to be deposited on tips as the tipping space in the lower quarry was limited. The name Hill 60 was brought to this corner of Wales by men who had fought with the RWF in WWI. Likewise the rough moorland track to Foel Quarry SH756464, a subsidiary of Rhiw Fachno, was dubbed by the next generation of returning Fusiliers as the 'Burma Road'. [The 1st and 2nd Royal Welch Fusiliers fought in the Burma Campaign from 1942-45].
