As a matter of interest to HEXKELMemorial readers the following extract from this officialprogram as an authentic statement is given: The Rev.Anthony Jacob Henkel was descended from Dr. John Henkel,Chaplain to Queen Marie of Hungary, a friend of Erasmus,and recommended by Luther himself as la man of greatlearning and piety.1 The Rev. Memorial Tablet, erected October 28, 1917, In St. Michael*! Lutheran Church, Gcrniantown, Pcnna. THE HENKEL MEMORIAL. emigrated from Germany in 1717 and settled in FalcknersSwamp, or what is now called New Hanover, MontgomeryCounty, Pennsylvania. Exiled for conscience sake, thisearnest and forceful pioneer immediately occupied himselfwith the establishment of Protestantism in America, found-ing a Lutheran Church at New Hanover, St. MichaelsLutheran Church, Germantown, and aiding in the organiza-tion of the Church in Philadelphia. After an active anduseful career, Rev. Henkel died from a fall from his horsein 172S, and was buried in St. Michaels graveyard, his wifedying sixteen years later and being interred in the samegrave. They were survived by seven children. The piousand industrious lives of the parents have been transmittedthrough these to numerous descendants who now. by theerection of this Tablet, do honor to the memory of their illus-trious ancestors.
