The purpose of the Hospital is to find the cause of cancerand the best means of treating it. Extensive research isbeing carried on by the Commission. Just at this time radiumand its effects on cancer is being carefully investigated. TheCommission has not reported any positive cure for cancer,. but some very striking results, in selected cases, have followedthe use of radium. The Collis P. This marked the beginning of one of the greatest public health campaignsthat the City has ever undertaken. Provision has been madefor the treatment of incipient cases of tuberculosis at theState Sanatorium at Rutland. The purpose of the BostonConsumptives Hospital is to provide lirst class hospital treat-ment for advanced cases of tuberculosis. Providing hospitalaccommodations for this class of patients also serves to isolatethose who are foci of infection. Also, it is the purpose oftlic Boston Consumptives Hospital to correlate the \V(jrk ofthe numerous anti-tuberculosis organizations already estab-lished. The Hospital is located on l\i\er Street. Mattapan. one ofBostons quiet suburbs. The estate comprises fifty-eight acres.The main buililings are the Administrative Building and threetwo-story, tire-proof wards of the pavillion type.
