[edit]DescriptionThe Growing Soviet Role in the Third World 1965-1985 Chart.png |
English: The Growing Soviet Role in the Third World: U.S. vs. Soviet/East European. Military Advisors in the Third World, Military Training of the Third World Personnel. By the mid. 1980s the USSR had over thirty times as many military advisors in the Third World as the United States. The US trained about one-third as many Third World people per year as in 1970. The Soviets passed the US in 1980 and by the late 1980s train almost twice as many people as the US.
Note: Soviet/East European figures do not include 118,000 troops deployed to Afghanistan, the 2,800 members of the Soviet Brigade in Cuba, the 2,100 signals intelligence personnel in Cuba, and Soviet personnel at Cam Ranh Bay, Aden, and Dehalak doing purely Soviet tasks. U.S. figures do not include troops that were stationed in Vietnam. |
