English: New discoveries in understanding the gold cycle indicate that microorganisms play an important role in the biomineralization, aggregation, and transformation of gold in the environment. The fluxes shown are from Bowen, 1985. The largest known deposit of gold in the lithosphere is the Witwatersrand paleo-placer which contains 30% of all gold.
