English: The God Shiva as a King, Philadelphia Museum of Art. Description from the museum reads: "The God Shiva as a Kind. Around 900 - 950. India (Tamil Nadu). From a temple wall. Chola dynasty. Granite. This sculpture was carved for a large temple patronized by the Chola dynasty, one of the most powerful maritime states in world history. As with other dynasties, Chola royal temples constituted economic and social centers that expressed the king's wealth and status.
