English: The German Monster German class 52 2-10-0 no. 5865 Peer Gynt. This is a massive machine, much different to the classes built in Britain. Known as Kriegslok meaning War machine, over 8000 were built. This example was sent to Norway in the War and stayed there until the 1950s In 1953 she overhauled and sent to the Norway Strategic reserve, placed in a disused tunnel in case of war. 1972 saw here discovered and Purchased by Alan Bloom. Now due to the massive size and Asbestos boiler lagging she will probably never steam again (there has been enough trouble getting Royal Scot into steam). |
