64 The Geo. H. Mellen Co., Florists and Seedsmen, Choice and Rare Fruits The Fruit Garden is an indispensable part of any home, it is a delight, a satisfaction, a convenience, a profit, and a* source of the most heathful and delicious food supply any family can have. Beginning with the Strawberry in May, the supply is never exhausted until the last Winter Apple has goneâJuneberries, Cherries, Raspberries, Wineberries, Cur- rants, Blackberries. Plums, Peaches, Pears, Grapes, and Apples follow successively. Tney save expense, are lucious and con- venient, and any place stocked with fruit always finds a ready sale at a good price. We have carefully prepared a limited list of varieties which are perfectly adapted to all part3 of the country. The trees we offer are young and thrifty, and will make a very rapid growth and bear quickly. If sent by mail, postage is paid by as. If by express or freight, charges are to be paid by purchaser, but larger stock will be sent. All fruits must be sent by express unless otherwise stated. Special Notice.âAs our Nursery is a separate and distinct department from our Greenhouses, it is necessary that all Fruit Orders be shipped direct from the Nursery, and we therefore ask customers to kindly keep fruit orders separate from Plant and Seed orders. More time is required in filling fruit orders than plant and seed orders, so that fruits often follow later. Note.âSuch trees as Apple and other Large Stock cannot be shipped until Spring opens, about March 10th, but all Small Fruits are under cover and can be sent when desired. The Prices on Fruits are placed very low and no extras can be allowed. THE 25 AND 50 CENTS EXTRA ALLOWED ON PLANTS AND SEEDS DOES NOT APPLY TO FRUITS. THE HALE PLUM, WICKSON
Text Appearing After Image:
This new Plum, given to the public last year for the first time, was originated by Luther Burbank, the "Wizard of Horticulture," who selected it from among more than 20,000 new seedling varieties, and who says of it: "In the hedge- row of seedlings this was the most vigorous, mnst produc= tive, handsomest, most uniform and, next to Wickson, the best flavored of any Japan Plum I have ever seen. No one who has tasted the fruit of Hale when ripe will ever say the fruit of any European Plum is superior. Many have com- pared it to Reine Claude or Green Gage, and I do not know of any fruit that will keep longer." Most vigorous of all the Japans. Fruit large, bright orange, mottled with cherry red, Superb in quality, fully equal to Imperial Gage; none so fine for the family. Ripens middle of September.
