butsomeweredecidedly superiorto it in flavour, as, for instance,the Parasol Agaric (Agaricui,procerus), and the Orange-milkAgaric (Lactarius deliciosus)The Parasol Agaric may becooked in any way, and yet isexcellent in all. The chairmanhad brought the largest speci-men, but not the best as regardsflavour. The smaller kindsgrown in upland meadows areof much finer flavour, and whenyoung and quickly grown aremore light and digestible thanordinary Mushrooms. ThisAgaric may be readily known byits dry scaly top, loose ring, andthe snake-likemarkson its stem.There was, however, a speciespresent which bore so much re-semblance to this A. procerusthat it might easily bemistaken for it, and thatwas Agaricus naucinus,which, however, hasa fixed ring and whitestem. Of this Dr. Bulland friends freely par-took and enjoyed,thinking it wast he A.procerus, except thatit was remarked it didnot seem quite so goodas usual. It, however,proved to be A. nauci-nus, of which manybeautiful specimenswere shown.
