Edinburgh Chrysanthemum Show. —At the recent show of the Scottish HorticulturalAssociation the Silver Medal offered for thebest new Chrysanthemum was awarded to thevariety Daily Mail. Messrs. Wells, the exhi-bitors, inform us that owing to the ticket beingreversed the name appeared as Mrs. TreshamGilbey. Acquired Characters in Trees.— Professor Englers investigations on the influ-ence of place of origin of seeds on the characterof the plants produced therefrom have led himto conclusions of considerable interest and im-portance which are summarised in the QuarterlyJournal of Forestry (October, 1913).
