the pitcher is whollycovered with digestive glands. Those near thetop are small ami over-ai-ched, but the sizeincreases downwards, and in the lower half theglands are about half a line („, inch) in diameterand pentagonal to heptagonal in shape, with araised, hard rim all round, giving the surface theappearance of being irretiularly tesselatid. Thedried specimen shows tliis very distinctly. In striking contrast to N. Lowii the hugepitcher of N. Rojah is most elaborately orna-mented. It has in-oad, fringed wings, and thebroad, plaited, slippery collar has a strong, comb-like, incurved inner margin. Inside, thepitcher is covered with glands, of which there areabout 4,000 to the square inch, and as the pitcherssometimes have a capacity of two quarts it maybe imagined how enormous the total number ofglands must be. This species has the largestpitcher of any of the genus. The wild oneexhibited has a leaf-blade 20 inches by 7 inches ;a tendril 20 inches long, peltately attached2 inches within the margin of the blade; apitcher 12 inches by 7 inches, with a lid 10 inchesby S inches. This gives from the base of the leafto the top of the upraised lid a total length of5 feet 2 inches.
