for in the originaldescription of the type, in which he refers to otherspecimens of it, Gardeners Chronicle> vii., 1877,p. 271, he says, This is a very pretty novelty, some-times with very large flowers. This week specimensof it have been received from W. C. Walker, Esq.,Winchmore Hill, and H. Cary Batten, Esq., AbbotsLeigh, Bristol. The flowers are large for the species ;white, with the tips of the sepals and petals colouredrose-purple for about one-third of their length, andthe front lobe of the lip of a rathor darker rose-purple with an orange keel in the centre. It is apretty variety of a very useful winter-floweringspecies. LUDDEMANNIA LEHMANNI. In describing this very striking and showy Orchid,Reichenbach designated it a fresh member of themysterious genus Luddemannia, and until recentlybut little was known of the plant. Orchidists seemto have a curious way of sometimes multiplyingnames for the same variety, and also of reversingthis process by having several varieties under thesame name. S. S, (The statement of J. There are nottwo varieties of C. insigne Sanderse, though possiblythe allied, but inferior, C. insigne Sanderianum, andother similarly inferior varieties, may have gotconfounded with it in some gardens.
