A visit to these well-kept gardens is alwaysinstructive from a gardeners point of view, a highstandard of cultivation being aimed at by Mr. Speed.In a recent visit, we were much jjleased with theappearance of things throughout, and that in spite■of the unfavourable season. Both fruits and plantsare well done at Penrhyn. Grapes are now in splendidcondition, having more the appearance of Vinesbut a few years old than of those of between forty favourite kind, fruits of the second crop being ripe,and of extra size and quality. The trees are trainedvery thinly, thus affording a free circulation of air,with the beneficial effects of more light. The largesttree in the Fig-house measures 70 feet or more inwidth, and is in the best of health.
