461 aa cultivated in gardena ia that it haa not generallyflowered freely, Bat in the hands of those whostudy the requirements of the species of Amaryllida,which are natives of hot, sandy plains, a reaaonableamount of success is attained, and especially invery warm, dry summers. The plant makes anoble show, with ita tall, atont ecapea crowned withbright red flowers. The chief points to be observedin the culture of Bninavigias ia to withhold waterearly in the season, and when the leavea begin to one for Brnnavigia, for we have aeen the apecies nndernotice in flower at Kew and several other places. Oneof the beat examples was that exhibited by Mr. 1 (. B.Lowe, gardener to Earl Bhownlow, Ashbridgj Park,at the Rjyal Horticultural Siciety on August 13this year, and which waa much admired, and fromwhich our illustration (fig. 81) waa taken (see Gar-deners Chronicle, August 17, p. 191).
