The wild ducks of various degrees ofwildness and of various breeds and crossbreeds have become very abundant andthousands would have been sent to theNew York market last fall had it not beenfor fooHsh restrictions. There is a de-cided tendency on the part of wild duckbreeders to improve the character oftheir flocks by introducing wild blood.There is much to be done in this direc-tion before the wild fowl owned bybreeders are uniformly strong on thewing and suitable for the preserve. Crosses between the pheasants andeven long periods of domestication donot seem to cause the loss of wing powerwhich soon occurs when ducks are bredin captivity or partly domesticated.
