Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Still from the American film The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1921) in a "coming attractions" section on page 11 of the September 3, 1921 Duluth Herald, and was the first advertisement for the film in that newspaper. The still is of a minor scene showing the female models Julio Desnoyers was painting at his studio in France. The scene with its partial nudity (only implied in this still) was typically removed by censors at the time and is missing from most surviving prints of the film, which only show the models (if at all) after they later cover themselves or only from the back. The actresses are not listed in the credits of this film, but the IMDB lists one as being American actress Claire de Lorez, who is credited in at least 20 other films. This is an example of those American films of the period, although censored in some localities, that showed nudity in the context of women posing for artists or sculptors, with the models staying motionless like a tableau vivant.
