NAMES OF THE DAYS OF THE WEEK The names of the days of the week are ofSaxon origin, their spelling, of course, beingmodernised. The Romans named the firsttwo days after the sun and moon respectively,and the Saxons followed their example, butin their own language. Thus Sunnan-daeg isour Sunday and Monan-daeg our Monday.The other five days were named after godsor other mythical persons whom they wor-shipped.
