Especially in the rearing- ofchildren, oatmeal has been recommending- itself to all classesas possessing in an eminent degree, bone and flesh-formingproperties. One drawback there is to the use of this food in theordinary form. To invalids and persons of delicate constitu-tion, the coarseness of its preparation is a source of seriousirritation ; and even to persons in good health, the continueduse of oatmeal, with its powerfully stimulating effects uponthe lower viscera,
