| Description |
English: The Flashes A wide area of heathland with scattered birch and pine. Several sandy tracks cross the heath strewn with natural gorse and heather. The trees that survive the acidic, quite wet, slow draining soil are pineferous on the whole, with silver birch also adapted to survive the rare soil type - see Soilscape website from the University of Cranfield for example. This type of soil amounts to 2.9% of soil in the UK and is rare across the world. |
