Summary

[edit]
Description
English: 9 June 2019. Last Sunday, for old times' sake, Zena and I made a visit to the famous tree at the south end of Lawrence Road N15.

"Old times' sake". I really said those words. Because for years we'd taken photos of every part of Lawrence Road when it was brimming with dumped rubbish. Trash In front of the buildings; garbage between buildings; piles of waste behind the buildings; in the bushes; among the trucks.

Of course it never got into the Guinness Book of dumping. There were far larger official dumping sites. Fishkill landfill in Staten Island, for instance. Everest base camp. But it helped the London Borough of Haringey stay up in the list of dumpingest boroughs.

Revisiting the corner by the tree, I saw that someone on the Tidy Up Tottenham facebook page had not made a mistake. This is both an official dumpsite. AND an official No Dumping site. At the same time.

Because there was a big bright sign which, if it didn't actually say: "Dumpers Welcome!", may as well have proclaimed: "Come to sunny Lawrence Road and dump right in! The rubbish is luverly!

Though, to be fair, dumping at certain specified and rationed hours. Like The Alhambra in Granada, or the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, where you can have too many admiring tourists all at once.

At the same time another sign gravely warns you against Fly-tipping rubbish. If you dump waste they'll be after you. Give yourselves up! Surrender your rubbish bags and broken chairs. Dirty Haringey is here. Do you feel lucky, punk?

No wonder people are confused. The Council seems clueless which rule residents and traders are supposed to follow.
