Description
English: The English Oak Memorial, Memorial Way, Tonge Mill Park The plaque with this tree reads "This Oak Tree was grown at Torry Hill on the Estate of Lord Kingsdown K.G. former Lord Lieutenant of Kent. He kindly donated the Oak to the Royal Naval Association (Sittingbourne Branch) to commemorate the Sailors and Royal Marines, who gave their lives in two World Wars. 1914-18, 1939-45 and conflicts since, in all parts of the World. 'They shall not grow old, As we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them, Nor the years condemn, At the going down of the sun, And in the morning, we will remember them'. WE WILL REMEMBER THEM". Then follows A Reading: The Pilots Psalm. See http://www.gesuiti.it/moscati/English/En_Pilot.html. This memorial Oak Tree was planted September 2002.
