| Description |
English: The drowning house is a monument located in the southwest of the Vliehors on the Wadden island of Vlieland and furnished as a small beachcombers museum.
The cottage dates from 1890 and was put here as a shelter for shipwrecked sailors. If a ship was wrecked during a storm, they could reach the striking white house where blankets, basic foodstuffs and water were stored. There was also a telephone connection to a post house more than five miles away. After the storm had subsided, they were then picked up by horse and cart. The photo was taken from Texel, the island next to Vlieland. It has become clear from previous photos that the image cannot be sharpened in sweltering heat. So that has to be different. Get out of bed early, it's getting lighter outside but the air is still cold. Cold enough not to vibrate the air. Perfect for these photos. |
