English: The Dorset Shepherd, Durngate Street. Commissioned by Henry Ling Ltd, Dorchester printers, and sculpted by John Doubleday to mark the millennium. The inscription belonging to this statue includes a verse from "The Shepherd o' the Farm" by William Barnes. See 912568
John Doubleday, former pupil of Goldsmiths College, is renowned throughout the world for his public sculptures. Some of his works include: Nelson Mandela in South Africa, Singapore, Trieste and Bombay; Sir Lawrence Olivier in Beijing; the Beatles in Liverpool; and, Golda Meir in Jerusalem. |
