Not all recover, however, byany means, nor is this to be wonderedat. A stomach which has been receivingpus for some fifteen to thirty years isvery frequently permanently damaged.It is beyond repair, and the chronic gas-tritis remains, even though the originalsource of the infection has been removed.These facts explain, I think, why it isthat the two curves become closer to-gether in the last age periods.
