Text Appearing Before Image:
letelyobliterated in this manner. Ondrying, this conglomerate con-tracts much more than the normalivory and consequently may be-come separated from it either inpart or totally ; in the latter case itwill naturally be found lying loosein the cavity. I possess one ofthese bodies which is hollow andcontains the remains of pulp-tissue within. The Histology of Pulp-Nodules. I have not much to add to what has already been written by otherson the structure of pulp-nodules. They almost invariably show adistinctly lamellated structure and consist of an apparently more orless granular basis-substance, penetrated by canals bearing a closeresemblance to dentinal tubules. In ground sections passing throughthe middle of the nodule they generally show to the naked eye awhitish opaque irregular spot at or near the center, surrounded byyellowish transparent tissue. This opaque spot (the point at whichthe calcification began) will be found under the microscope to contain 426 THE DENTAL COSMOS. Fig. 57.
Text Appearing After Image:
A cross-section of a tusk with numerous interstitial nodules. (Nat. size.) The layer ofpathological ivory on the right border of the section shows that the tusk, at an early periodof its formation, must have been subjected to a severe injury; the resultant irritation upon thepulp accounts for the unusual number of nodules. Fig. 58.
