He contin-ued at Brazo Fuerte the manufacture ofbricks and tiles, but did not attempt tooperate the abandoned quarries, wherepalms and bananas grew in the rooflessquarters, and thrust through the rustingmachinery. The product of his brick-yard went largely to join the slabs ofmarble in Havana, paving parts of MorroCastle as well as numberless lesser struc-tures public and private. Sarda was the builder of the Havanamarket and other imnortant governmentworks, and was understood to cherishambitious plans for the future when hedied, not long before the outbreak of thelast Spanish-Cuban war. From his widow and children. Cabal-los, Columbo and Brazo Fuerte werebought, in 1901. by T. J. Keenan. ofPittsburg. At the latter plantation. Mr.Keenan has established his winter home,and is gradually restoring its wastedbeauties.
