| Description |
English: A perfect small town. But not connected to the railway system today (unlike Osoblaha! whither this postcard was sent),which tends to keep the masses away. I found it strange that this postcard should be sent to such an odd place...a village on the border of Poland, in German speaking Czechoslovakian Sudetenland. It is still reached by a narrow gauge railway, quite isolated. The sender was obviously a teacher who had grown up in London. More family history research on him here on the other side of the postcard. I think the building bottom centre is the Wisbech and Fenland museum now. The yellow builing in the bottom centre is Wisbech castle, as jayjayinauk states. it is a regency villa dating from around 1817. The Wisbech & Fenland museum nearby is in a smaller purpose built building dating from 1847!! |
