This aceording to Meltzers work relaxes the sphincter of the common duct and contracts the gall bladder. The Jnle is then syphoned off and examined bacteriologically, chemically and microscopically and is an aid in the diagnosis of biliaryesions. It is also a therapeutic aidn suitable cases. An interesting-observation was made on a patient at St. Josephs Hospital which helps clear up certain fact-ors about B bile. A duodenal tube was passed on a patient to be operated for a chronic gallbladder, the patient was anesthetized and the usual gall-bladder incision was made, the gall bladder was exposed and the duodenum was douched with magnesium sulphate in the usual manner. In a short time a distended gall bladder was seen to collapse and typical B bile appeared in the collection bottle. The gall bladder was then removed and, on opening it,it was found to contain the same character of B bile as
