We, like many of our compa-triots (mama and I), are trying tofulfill our duty towards thesebrave soldiers, by keeping up oneof their graves, since their par-ents who are so far away have notthe consolation of being able todo it. We met recently in the ceme-tery, an American officer, CaptainG. Neeser, who asked us to takecharge of another grave, that of anon-commissioned officer whom heloved very much, and which he didnot wish to see abandoned. Uponhis request mama consented forme to take charge of it. Sincethen, dear madam, I go every dayto visit and put flowers on thisgrave, which is that of your lostson, Sergeant A. L. Gauvreau. Igo there for the sake of France,in the name of the fraternity whichunites our two nations, but I gothere above all madam, for yoursake, to take a little souvenirthinking of your grief. I wish Icould console you a little, but yourgrief is such that cannot be con-soled. So I simply say to you,
