The monument was commissioned to commemorate heroic ancestors and forefathers and to honour the toil, struggles, endurance and sacrifice of the early pioneers who had established the British settlement that we now call home,,

The removal of a Statue

It's a very unusual form of democracy in Halifax Nova Scotia  ? The less than 10 percent small minority seems to have won a complete and total victory in the city of Halifax  ?

Halifax polls have shown that only a very small minority of 6 percent of respondents wanted the Cornwallis statue taken down and then to be hidden away from view forever , or else, that it be taken down and then melted down or otherwise completely destroyed ? On the other hand, a clear majority of 66 percent or 2 out of 3 wanted it left undisturbed and left right where it is now and where it has aways been, with the remainder wanting it to be placed on public display in a public museum for public viewing ?

After being carefully maintained and lovingly preserved by past citizens of Halifax for 88 years, the Cornwallis Statue was suddenly torn down and then hidden away from public view somewhere ever since  ? Polls had clearly shown that only a small minority of approx 6 or 7 percent of respondents wanted it either to be torn down and hidden away forever, or, that it be totally destroyed, however, on the other hand, a clear majority of citizens wanted it to be left untouched and to remain right where it is now where it has always been. And so it seems that the citizens of Halifax may have been misrepresented by the current Mayor and Council who had ignored the pleas of the local community and instead sided with and supported a small minority group of staunch anti-statue activists most of whom don't even live in Halifax and all of whom hold a very negative minded opinion about the statue, and, none of whom were alive during the time of the history that they propagate nor did any of them personally observe, participate in, or live in the times that they seem to act as eye witness experts? And why would anyone feel entitled to be a (self-appointed) judge jury, or executioner in a one-sided, no-defence-allowed, unopposed kangaroo-court type of trial against historical figures who are no longer here to defend or represent themselves nor are they allowed a chance to give their testimony, explanation, description, opinion, or any kind of defence whatsoever against one-sided accusations now being made against them by a small group who currently enjoy all of the comforts, safety and security of a modern lifestyle that has included and provided them with : Blue Cross and hospitals if they get sick, Police if they need protection, Universities if they need education, Sobeys if they need food, Churches if they need sanctuary, Google if they need information, Aliant if they need communication, Courts of Law if they get involved in a disagreement, and,, access to an extremely generous social safety net if they need money, ( all because of the efforts of those that came before us )
