Description: The Commander Hotel. A modern Fireproof building located only a few minutes by rapid transit to downtown Boston. Across historic Cambridge Common from Common, from Harvard, in the shade of Radcliffe and Sargent Colleges, by the site of the famed Washington Elm, this hotel offers 244 furnished rooms including 1, 2, and 3 room kitchenette apartments, Colonial dining room, cocktail lounge, and grill. On the lawn of its Mt. Vernon entrance stands a life-sized bronze reproduction of Washington by Houdon, the only statue for which he posed, the original of which is in the Capital in Richmond, Va.
