Text Appearing Before Image:
The nasopharynx in a child is long and shallow. The baseof the tongue is relatively thinner and the larynx is higher thanit is in an adult. If hypertrophied adenoid tissue is present in aninfant, it may obstruct the nasopharynx and also the larynx onaccount of the relatively high position of the latter. Inflamed faucial tonsils in infants are rather unusual. After the second year inflammation of the tonsils becomes moreand more common until the age of puberty is reached, at whichtime the nasopharyngeal and faucial tonsils usually tend toatrophy. The turbinal bones all show distinctly. Four ethmoidalturbinates can be seen. The thorough removal of all of the adenoid tissue in thenasopharynx and the fossae of Rosenmueller is done after theenucleation of the tonsils and the whole operation is more radi-cal than it was formerly and is necessarily attended by more KALEVI
