oidismmay be applicable to the treatment of acromegaly. If partial exci-sion is applicable to one condition it may be to the other. My experience in the surgery of the hypophysis has beenacquired only in the experimental laboratory. Following the sug-gestion of Dr Sweet, of the Laboratory of Experimental Surgery,I have removed the hypophysis from dogs by a method, whichthough perhaps not feasible in the human subject, is comparative-ly easy of execution in the lower animals. The immediateapproach to the gland is made by a preliminary median pharyn-gotomy, dividing the tissues at the root of the tongue and softpalate. At the midpoint of an imaginary line drawn between thetips of the two pterygoid processes, a trephine of small calibre(%~H inch) is applied and when the button of bone is removedthe hypophysis will be found lying at the bottom of the trephineopening.
