Description

It looks as if this new development, when completed, will still permit the Church of St Thomas the Martyr to be seen from Redcliffe Quay.

To quote from a notice on the wall round the development by Jonathan Chadwick on behalf of the architects:

'The Bristol Civil Justice Centre is designed to enable new users to easily navigate their way around the building. There are four floors of courts and the most heavily used, the civil hearing rooms, have been located at the lowest possible level within the building for ease of access. The court hall provides public waiting areas and is naturally lit via a combination of windows and a large roof light over a central atrium. Other public facilities such as the consultation rooms are accessed off the north side of the court hall. 'The binding concept is based on a sustainable design that maximizes the use a natural light and ventiation. In principle, fresh air is taken tram the south side of the building. introduced through floor ducts at low level, then extracted at high level into the ceiling void and vented through the atrium. The system is supplemented by mechanical healing and cooing to cope with extremes of temperature.'
