Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Church of the Holy Cross Ilam - geograph.org.uk - 24529.jpg |
English: The Church of the Holy Cross Ilam. Originally a Saxon church with some Norman and Early English features. On the south wall there is a walled-up old Saxon doorway, and there are the stumps of two Saxon crosses in the churchyard. Inside the church there is a excellent Saxon font.
The church was further modified in the C17th by the Meverell family of Throwley Hall (see SK1152) and in Victorian Times by the Watts Russell family of Ilam Hall. |
