Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Church of St James, Heyshott The original chapel of ease was mainly built of wood and the building seen today dates from the 13th century but only the south wall contains some materials from an earlier structure. The chapel remained a chapel of ease to Stedham until 1882. In 1885 the church was in poor condition and was largely rebuilt. It is built of rubble with tiled roofs and a weatherboard turret and shingled spire. This part of the churchyard is covered with ox-eye daisy. The word "daisy" comes from two Anglo-Saxon words - daeyes and eayes which becomes day's eye.
