Dec. 22d, following, he baptized this daughter, his only living child, her husband also, the ;i^only son of his wife and two cousins. Jan. 26th, he speaks of n^baptizing nine persons in seven minutes. In Oct. 1851, he 1^made his last visit to Wolfboro. He returned home in very jte*feeble health. Nov. 9th, he was, at his earnest request, carried L^to his chapel in Kittery, where he preached a brief and final \~^sermon from Luke 12: 37. A council of physicians was called MiNov. 26th, of which he speaks in his last diary entry. He 1^suffered greatly until the evening of Dec. 29th, when, at 11: 20, ;^he passed away, Let me die, were perhaps his last words, j^Jan. 2,1852, he was buried from the Kittery church. Elder ;3;George Moore Payne giving the sermon from II. Kings 2: 12. ;^Elders Pike, Knowlton, Holmes, Blodgett, and Sweat, assisted in the services.

His grandfather, General ftl Joseph Badger, -was of Revolutionary tame. Giles Badger, uj an ancestor, settled in Newbury, Mass.,iu June,lti43. Josephs n\ mother died in 1S34, and his father in 1S46. In 1802 his father i^l removed to Compton, Canada. When sixteen, Joseph was in Sj a serious state of mind, and one evening being reproved with 5! other lads for indecorum, he arose and made his first public Kj talk in defense of his conduct. He sat down in tears. In g! fact, he was in a state fif conviction and wholly in sympathy (=1 with the inoeting. In August, ISll, he wont to the woods and i); surrendered himself to God in prayer, and soon after spoke nj in a meeting of his purpose to be a Christian.
