Ilany Cummings Macdowall, the activePastor of St. Agnes fhurcli, is a native ofWashington, District of Cohimbia, and is of a familywhich has aheady given New York City a priest ofmark, in the person of liis uncle, the learned and brilliantDr. Jeremiah W. Cummings, so many years identified withSt. Stephens Church. The Rev. Mr. Macdowall was born in 1841, and wassent at an early age to that great seminary of the Ameri-can Church, Mount St. Marys, Emmittsburg. After hiscourse there, having devoted himself to the service of Godin his church, he completed his divinity studies in theCollege of the Propaganda at Rome. At the conclusionof his studies he received minor orders, and the subdia-conate and diaconate, and was ordained priest on the13th of June, ISd?, in the basilica of St. John Lateran,by his Eminence Cardinal Constantine Patrizi, Bishop ofOstia and Velletri.
