| Description |
English: The Catholic Chapel at Cloughcor. St Mary's Catholic church is located in a very rural area between Ballymagorry and Artigarvan. This not natural Catholic territory - the Artigarvan area is more than 94% Protestant. The extensive Foyleside parish which the church serves is known as Leckpatrick (Lech Padrig in Irish). The Welsh for this is Llech Padrig [=Patrick's stone] - the stone reputed to have been the place where St Patrick used to kneel to pray. Similarly the root of the name Cloughcor is an Irish word meaning "stone". |
