Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Carnock Burn. This is another view of the part of the burn that is shown at 336226.

The OS map shows a track leading up to the burn, and crossing here. However, the track has not been used by vehicles for a long time; not far to the south, there were five-metre-high conifers growing in the middle of it: 1726629. Nevertheless, traces of vehicle tracks were still visible on both sides of the burn.

A few patches of ice can be seen on the surface of the burn; on this occasion, just beyond the bend, the steep wall of rock on its far side was covered with metre-long icicles.

See http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/130816/details/stockie+muir/ (at Canmore) for interesting comments on the place shown in my photo; it is explained there in detail why this was possibly a ford, used when taking cattle along the old drove roads. As is mentioned there, the Carnock Burn does indeed present a formidable obstacle over most of its length; however, on the day that I took this photo, I managed to cross the burn at the point shown here without getting my feet wet, so I can attest to this being one of the best points at which to cross.
