Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Paleochora was the medieval Aegina. In the 9th century A.D. the locals abandoned their coastal city and withdrew to the mountainous area of their island due to the raids of Saracene pirates. There they built numerous churches which today number thirty-three. Nothing remains from the medieval settlement than these churches. Paleochora was inhabited until the 19th century when it was abandoned once again for the coastal city.
