Description
English: The Byzantine Tekfur Palace, located in Edirnekapı, dates to the 13th or 14th century. Although its precise erection date is unknown it is believed to have been built as the workers living quarters next to the Blakhernai Palace. After the conquest of İstanbul, the building stayed abandoned until the 17th century. At that time it was converted into a zoo. It was used as a ceramic atelier in the 18th century and a glass atelier in the 19th century. The Tekfur Palace was restorated between 1955 and 1970. It is under restoration again today with more detailed excavations now taking place.

Edirnekapı’da yer alan ve Bizans döneminden günümüze ulaşan Tekfur Sarayı’nın yapım tarihi tam olarak bilinmemektedir. Bazı kaynaklarda 13. veya 14. yüzyıla tarihlendirilen yapının, Blakhernai Sarayı çalışanlarının ikamet etmesi için saraya bitişik olarak inşa edildiği düşünülmektedir. İstanbul’un fethinden sonra 17. yüzyıla kadar metruk durumda kalan yapı, 17. yüzyıl sonunda hayvanat bahçesine çevrildi. 18. yüzyılda seramik atölyesi, 19. yüzyılın sonunda ise cam ve cam ürünleri imalathanesi olarak kullanıldı. 1955-1970 yıllarında restore edildi. Günümüzde yeniden restorasyon çalışmaları yapılan yapıda arkeolojik kazılar da sürdürülüyor.
