Français : La collection d'oeuvres d'art et d'antiquités acquise durant sa vie par William Burrel, un riche armateur de Glasgow qu'il a donnée à la ville en 1944, a été installée au sein du plus grand parc de Glasgow : le Pollock Country Park (le donateur avait exigé que sa collection soit exposée dans un bâtiment entouré de verdure, loin du centre-ville).
www.glasgowmuseums.com/venue/index.cfm?venueid=1Le bâtiment a été inauguré en 1983, il a été conçu par les architectes Barry Gasson et Brit Andresen. Il est entouré d'un coté d'arbres et de l'autre d'une immense pelouse (photo). La collection comprend des oeuvres d'art médiéval, d'art asiatique, d'art islamique, des antiquités égyptiennes, grecques et romaines, des tableaux et sculptures d'art moderne (Rodin, Cézanne, Degas, ..) |
