It will be noted that she had one lesion upon the scalp.She complains of a pricking sensation in some of the patches. I have since treated the large patch with carbon dioxide freezing and haveproduced a nearly complete cicatrisation and blanching of the old area by thismeans. Case 4: Microscopic notes.—This case shows a remarkably superficial epithelio-matosis, but in my opinion a true one, although this is disputed by thepathologist of my hospital. Dr. Adamson, to whom I have shown the section,supports my view that it represents a veiy early rodent type, and in this case oneof the downgrowths of epithelium seems to start at the side of a well-developedpilo-sebaceous follicle. There aie no deep collections of epithelial cells in thecoriura. The lesions in her case are all of the reddened discoid type,the largest and oldest being found on tlie back, and here one jjatch has existedfor over thirty years. She also shows a well-defined lesion uponthe scalp, and this area, about the size of a shilling, is entirely devoid of hair.The patch exhibited to me, that just above the right breast, shows a very completeand characteristic translucent wax-like rolled edge. No ulceration has takenplace in any of the patches, but on the large patch on the back there is a mass ofwarty granulation-tissue, which Dr. Gayner has from time to time reduced withlocal treatment.
