The Royal Air Force in France 1939 - 1940: An RAF officer examines the wreckage of a crashed German Dornier Do 17 bomber which crashed in a French field. Note: It's a Dornier Do 17 P reconnaissance aircraft, Luftwaffe code (Verbandskennzeichen) 4N + FH (white F), 1.(F)/22 (1st squadron of 22nd Fernaufklärungsgruppe/strategic recce group.[1] Deutsch: Dornier Do 17 P Fernaufklärer; das vervollständigte Verbandskennzeichen lautet: 4N + FH (weisses F), die zugehörige Aufklärungseinheit ist die 1.(F)/22 (1. Staffel der Fernaufklärungsgruppe 22), welche vom Juli 1940 bis Nov. 1940 mit Do 17 P und Bf 110 C vom Stützpunkt St. Omer aus Aufklärungsflüge über der Nordsee und der Ostküste Englands geflogen hat. Die 1.(F)/22 lag im Mai 1939 auf dem Fliegerhorst Kassel-Rothwesten, und verfügte über eine Staffelstärke von 12 Dornier Do 17 P Aufklärer.[2] |
