BOSTON. HUS. Table Talk Sir Algernon West in his remi-niscences says: Cooking has improveda hundred fold, but there is no prom-inent chef like Soyer or Francatelli. There are many gourmands, butthere is no gourmet like Edward Mills.Some one asked him if a certain dinnerwas not wonderful. Good, he said,but not wonderful. There were nopoints in it. What do you mean?said his friend. Well, he replied,Thames perch are in season from the1st to the 12th of December. If therehad been perch, that would have beena point. When at his moor in Scot-land it was always said that he had hisgrouse packed and sent to London andreturned, as he thought the journeygave them a better flavor.
