| Description |
English: The Blind Well near Bourne. This is marked on the map as "Blind Well (Chalybeate)". Within the wooden barrier is a shallow damp grassy depression. I have heard of wells having been reputed to cure blindness but I don't know if such a legend accompanies this one. The word Chalybeate means "containing iron". Springs and wells which gave water with a high concentration of iron salts were once considered to be therapeutic. |
